“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.”
II Timothy 1:7 NKJV
The greatest inhibitor in the service of God is fear. The fear of failure, fear of rejection or fear of inadequacy keep us from being effective for Jesus. The root of fear does not come from God, but from the fall. Fear began at the fall when Adam and Eve sinned in the garden; they saw they were naked and they were afraid (Gen.3:10).
Fear can be a useful defense mechanism. After all, it’s our built in defense system to warn us of coming danger. However, the enemy manipulates that fear to hinder your service.
But God has given us three things to fight off the spirit of fear, the fear which originated from the pit.
First, He has given us His Spirit, notice the Big “S” not a little “s”. We have power in his Holy Spirit, it is dynamite power. It’s God size power that lives in us to defeat fear and empower our service.
Second, He has given us his agape unconditional love. God's love is perfect and perfect love casts our fear. When we love unconditionally His love is non threatening and peaceable to those we serve.
Lastly, He has given us a sound, disciplined mind. This means we are sober minded in our thinking. We need not fear for we have girded up our minds with His thoughts for His purpose.
God has fully equipped us for His service through His power, love and sound mind.
