“Remember me, O my God, concerning this also, and spare me according to the greatness of Your mercy!”
Nehemiah 13:22 NKJV
History has revealed men and women of faith, both inside and outside the church, people who have stood up for righteousness sake. These include people such as C.S. Lewis, William Booth, Martin Luther King Jr, Sojourner Truth, Fanny Crosby and Joni Erickson Tada.
Each of these individuals has their own faith story. Like Nehemiah, they stood up for righteousness sake.
But they all had one thing in common; they all needed the mercy of God. In the midst of their great work of reconciliation and restoration they still needed to experience God’s great mercy.
Mercy is not getting what we deserve. We deserve death, but God granted us life. He spared us from death and He pardoned us from all our sin so that we would become the righteousness of God.
Nehemiah's prayer at the end of his narrative encapsulates this very thing. "I need your mercy, remember me!" This same prayer the thief asked on the cross and Jesus responded with “Assuredly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise.”
I pray that you grasp this great gift today, that you understand that you as a follower and believer in Christ have received such a great gift! Rejoice and be glad in His incomprehensible love!
