Roll Call

“Then my God put it into my heart to gather the nobles, the rulers, and the people, that they might be registered by genealogy.” Nehemiah 7:5 NKJV

“Then my God put it into my heart to gather the nobles, the rulers, and the people, that they might be registered by genealogy.” Nehemiah 7:5 NKJV

Chapter 7 of Nehemiah is a list of important names. These are genealogies of families. My dad taught me a very important lesson when I was young. He said, “Your name is everything. Never disrespect the Contreras name. We may not have a lot but we have our name and that means a lot.”

God values these names as they are listed twice in the scriptures, here in chapter 7 and Ezra chapter 2. These names are valuable to be recognized twice.

The greatest place is to have our names written in the Book of Life (Rev.20:15). It’s here that our names are etched into eternity. It’s here that we have reserved our heavenly citizenship. Jesus promised that those whose names are written in the Book of Life He would confess their name before His Father and angels (Rev.3:5). There is a roll call one day. Will your name be called?

In order to be on the roll call you have to call upon Jesus’ name to make the roll call list. Those who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved (Romans 10:13). Take a moment and call on him now if your name is not yet in the Book of Life. Thank Him if it is!
